Massage Me

Oh man, do I have the worst trick back! Yesterday I was sitting and I could feel that little "slip" in my upper back. I immediately was in so much pain. Good thing I was with Felix in his room and I could call for my darling husband over the monitor to come help me. He cracked my back at least 3 times yesterday. Sad that I wasn't doing anything cool when I hurt my back, nope just sitting in the damn rocking chair. Note to self: work on posture! I was hurting all day long. I looked like some sort of robot cause I couldn't bend my head or turn my head either way. Pathetic! At dinner my Dad looked at me with this strange look on his face, asking if I was okay. I had to blink my eyes twice to answer that I was okay. He told me I should ice my back and neck. Ewwww, that sounds awful, I wanted to put a heating pad on. Oh no you diden't....that is the wrong thing to do. If you have a sprain or any kind of muscle spasms you ice it down sistas. Putting heat on it relaxes the injury faster, but after you take that heat away it tenses back up and spasms even worse. Take note and follow Dr. Kurt's advice. Anyhoo, I went and had the most wonderful massage tonight at Healing Mountain. My favorite "cheap" massage. I even had a graduate student, but for the regular student rate. Cha-ching! This girl did some amazing things on my neck and shoulders. I'm feeling much better and may even get to the weeding the front yard desperately needs.

I just started a new La Fleur blog. It will be a place where I will post pictures of flowers, weddings, wreaths and such. Check it out!

Scared Little Kittens

We had the rain gutters replaced on our house yesterday...hurray, now they actually work! With all the drilling and loud banging sounds the cats were a little freaked out. I couldn't find them anywhere, I looked in all the places they usually hide....until I walked into the bathroom. I could see little shaking paws behind the shower curtain. Poor Sage and Leo!

ReAL Salt Lake

Last Saturday night Matt took Felix and I to an amazing ReAL home game in the new soccer stadium. It was so awesome, and RSL won the match!! The stadium and field are so beautiful, I recommend going to a game next year to see it all. Felix only got a bit scared and had some baby tears when the pre-game fireworks went off. Other than that he was a crazy fan throwing smoke bombs and streamers...just like his Father.

Grandma's Chili Sauce

Last Sunday my Mom and I made my Grandmothers recipe for chili sauce. It was a labor of love I tell you. We were chopping, dropping, stirring, & jarring ALL DAY LONG. The house smelled utterly amazing I have to add. We used organic tomatoes, peppers and onions from the farmers market, and I added in fresh green chilies from my own garden. It was a bumper crop this summer. It was nice to take time out and make this recipe with my mom. We had such a fun time and what a great memory! Can't wait to make some pork tenderloin to smother it in chili sauce. Tasty!

Halloween Crafting

I had made some of these shrunken beet heads years ago with my nephews, and I thought it was about time to make more! Aren't they so creepy? You take fresh beets, carve out holes for the eyes and mouths, and stuff the eye holes with dried beans. Pop them in a low oven for many hours and ta-da shrunken beet heads. I hung them in my dining room on my super creepy branches. This wreath is kinda strange....it came together relatively fast with not much planning. I had a grapevine wreath, added some black feathers, dried safflower blossoms (that I found in the trash at the flower wholesaler) and glued on some moss. A masterpiece! I heart Halloween decorating!

Gardner Village

We decided to take a little jaunt out to Gardner Village last night, Matt's parents were in town so it was a perfect evening indeed! Wow, what a spooktacular time we had! It's just not Halloween if you don't go out and see the witches at Gardner Village. It's so fun walking around all the little shops all decorated for Halloween. Pumpkins and corn stalks decorate every square inch, and the smell of autumn is in the air. These sorts of thing make me giddy with happiness! I was glad to see new shops had opened (some stores have struggled over the years, weird merchandise that you would see in an antique mall). I LOVED the kitchen shop...so many cute dishes, colanders, cookie cutters and foodie items. I was in HEAVEN. There seems to be an abundance of "girly" stores at Gardner Village. Got to get me a baby girl sometime.

A Van? Hmmm, Maybe!

I'm not much of the mini van type, but this new rockin van from VW is pretty cool. I'm thinking when we have more kids we will have to get a larger vehicle. I don't want a giant SUV, so we'll have to check these out when the time comes!

Puss & Boots 2008

Every year with my crazy Kappa girlfriends we have a reunion. It's the Puss & Boots reunion, but I won't get into why we call it that ;) Wink-Wink. This year we decided to go cheap and headed down to St. George. My parents have a condo and Aprils Grandparents have a condo as well. FREE-FREE-FREE!! On Saturday half of us went into Zion National Park for a slot canyon adventure. So glad that Sassy made it out alive. The other half of us went and played in the Sand Hallow Reservoir. It's like a mini Lake Powell. Oh my crap, it was so hot...almost 100 degrees. Little Felix was baking like a potato. We swam, fished, and relaxed in the sun. We had a wild craft night making "Rock Art". Thanks Erika for planning and supplying supplies. There were some real beauties and masterpieces. My favorite was Stephs Indian Woman and Baby. So darling!! Here are some pics from our crazy weekend!

October Thoughts

A toothy grin of Mr. Jack-O-Lantern . That delicious scent of pumpkins aglow with candle light. Vases of candy corn, black licorice & chocolates. Falling leaves. A spine tingling chill in the air. Who's there? A midnight walk in the graveyard. Hot apple cider and fresh donuts. Steaming bowls of spicy chili. Trick-or-Treat! Halloween decorations. Crazy costumes. Snuggling up by the fire telling ghost stories. Haunted Houses. Watching Nightmare Before Christmas. Decorating sugar cookies. This is my favorite time of year, and I can't help but smile.
