I can't believe my baby is 3 years old! Wow, time passes so quickly. I just love Felix, he really is the most awesome kid in the world. Whenever anyone meets him, they can't keep their eyes off him. I think strangers want to kidnap him sometimes. Creepy. I have friends tell me that their kids talk about Felix months after they have met him, always remembering his sweet dance moves. We celebrated with family and friends at a Cookies & Milk party. Good times!

We escaped the yucky Salt Lake City weather and went down to St. George. Love that place. We slept in, ate out at all our favorite restaurants and went hiking in the red rocks. It was a nice getaway before the baby comes. Next time we head south we will have a new little babers with us. Crazy!

Bathroom

Our bathroom is in working order and is almost 100% complete for goodness sakes. Wow, what a project it has been. When you've done most of the work by yourselves it's such a challenge to finish and keep motivated. We have learned our lesson that we should have just hired someone to do the tiling. However, Matt did an amazing job and I'm thrilled with how it all turned out. We are still waiting on a light fixture, having the fan and solar tube installed and I've ordered a clay sea horse from a local artist that will hang on the wall. I should really take some pics of all the cute "ocean" details but haven't got around to it. I just snapped these quick shots of Felix playing in the bath. Bath-time is his favorite. He has about a million toys he plays with, they are kinda taking over the bathroom to be honest. Hooray for showers and deep bathtubs!!!

Felix and the Dentist

It's really nice to have a dentist in the family. You know, for flossing emergencies and free toothpaste. It was finally time for Felix to have a quick dental check up with Uncle Jared at his awesome dental office. He was really excited to go and see the fish tank and sit in the cool chair. He was a little scared at first and then he was just fine (after he got the little mirror to hold). Jared (I mean Dr. Theurer) really is the best dentist around, please call and make an appointment if you need a new dentist.

It's a tradition to go visit this darling little family farm pumpkin patch in Draper. Felix and I headed out a few weeks ago to pick out some orange beauties. He had the best time pulling the wagons up and down the hills. We grew THREE of our own pumpkins this year (photo proof to come) but we had to get way more for the front porch. We have been busy decorating the front porch and house with all the Halloween decor. Felix is going nuts with excitement! He loves "punkees" (pumpkins), witches, ghosts and bats. He walks around the house and fake screams at all the spooky things. It's so much fun this year. It will be loads of fun next year when I have another little pumpkin around the house! Baby Robinson is due to arrive 3/27/11!!!
p.s. doctor thinks it's a girl!!!!

End of Summer

It's funny how during September and the first part of October you kind of get 2 seasons. You have the changing colors in the canyons and cooler temps, yet in the city it still feels like summer. We took advantage and did a lot of swimming while the weather has been so warm. My mom cranked up the heat in the pool and it feels wonderful getting into the water. It's like a giant bathtub. We don't have it heated like in the summer, so it's really a special treat to have it so warm. September also brings many birthdays, last minute bbq's and drives up the canyon to view the leaves. This particular picture was up near Midway. It was so gorgeous! October is my favorite month so we have been busy spooking out the house, pumpkin picking and baking with all the local produce we have been getting at the farmers market or growing ourselves. Happy October!

We started off our big trip in the Tetons & Jackson Hole. Wow, I love that place. We saw so many awesome animals and did some amazing hikes. The trip ended up being during my birthday so I spent the day rafting the white water rapids, eating a delicious birthday dinner and ended off the day at Alpenhoff with dessert!

Yellowstone 2010

We had such a blast when Matt's parents came into town a few weeks ago. Boy do they spoil us! Breakfast at the little America, dinners all over the city and fun activities. It makes me so happy seeing them interact with Felix. The just soak him in knowing that they will be going back to Denver soon. They are truly wonderful grandparents. Barbara found the cutest little guitar at an antique store in Denver and decided to purchase it for our little rock star. Bill put on new strings and Matt showed him how to hold the guitar properly and off he went. He can strum like he's been doing it forever. I took some cute videos on my phone but I'm not sure how to post them to my blog????

We had an adventure out to Antelope Island to show Matt's parents how beautiful it is. We grabbed some delicious sandwiches from Whole Foods and had a little picnic and toured the old farm/ranch. Very educational! I can't believe summer is ending. I'm just not ready for the cold weather to start creeping in. I've been taking advantage of what time we have left by sitting by the pool and soaking up the sun.

A Day in Huntsville

I have extended family on my Dad's side who live in the most gorgeous place, Huntsville Utah. Have you been there? No? Well you should. They invited us up for a casual family bbq. The boys had so much fun netting up bugs and slimy things in the little stream. Still can't believe nobody fell in! It was so lush and green and everyone played games, chased the cats and sat around the fire. What a lovely summer evening....

What a relaxing trip up to the cabin. Why was it relaxing...?? Because nobody was around!! My cousin Greg was getting married in CA and most of the family was there to celebrate. Matt and I decided we would not go due to the fact we had just gone to New Mexico and we have a Jackson/Yellowstone trip planned for August. So we were the only ones up at the cabin along with my mom and our good friends the Miyas. So glad they came up! We really did have a great time. Their kids are super cute & well behaved. The youngest, Sophie loved to play with Felix. I would see her putting his blanket around him and tucking him in (totally playing house!).

The water level has been rising on the lake so it made for a difficult time to find a dry beach. The beach directly out from our cabin was totally flooded, so no chance going out there. Sad and so frustrating! We did find a few good spots though! I just love that crystal light blue water. It reminds me of the water in Hawaii, seriously!

Even though it was a more relaxing trip, I was really missing my wild and crazy family!

I love the 4th of July. It means summer has truly arrived, and I love the heat. Well, this year was a bit chilly, we had to bundle up to watch the fireworks! I love the smell of summer- blooming flora, fresh cut grass, charcoal grills, suntan oil. I love the taste of summer- fresh corn on the cob, tomatoes, mint infused lemonade, grilled salmon, burgers & fresh berries.

When the 4th falls on a Sunday it seems like the 4th celebrations last all weekend and for us they did. On Friday we went to the zoo with my friend Michelle and her girls. Later that night Matt and I grilled up some tasty burgers and I made a mayo free potato salad with olive oil and vinegar (tasty). Saturday morning we rode over to Liberty Park with the family to eat breakfast on the patio and to play on the rides. Felix was in heaven with all his rowdy cousins around. After breakfast we went down to Pioneer Park for the Farmers Market. Oh boy how I love the farmers market! Lots of zucchini, herbs, lettuce, beets, and homeless guys passed out etc. After all that play in the sun we had to cool off with a drink from Sonic and a dip in the pool. Felix is turning into a little water bug. He plays on the steps in my parents pool so good! I think I'm going to have him do some little swim lessons from a neighbor girl. Sunday day we went up to the Park City outlet malls and did some serious shopping. Banana Republic had their entire store 50% off!! What the!!? Yeeeeesssssss. Sunday evening we had a lovely bbq at my parents followed by a sweet firework display at the Salt Lake Country Club. God Bless America!!

Today is Carter's 3rd. Birthday!! Can't believe it. Carter is Felix's FAVORITE person in the whole world. We drive up the road by Sugarhouse Park and Felix starts screaming "Cart-Cart" because he knows his house is close by. Heather's house is like Disneyland for Felix, he goes absolutely ape &%$#@. I dread going because it's such a fight when it's time to go. Carter and Felix have actually been playing together, not just side by side. Last Sunday they would hold hands and walk all over the house together. They even would give each other hugs and smooches. Tender moments! Happy Birthday Carter, we love you!!!

We are in the mix of remodeling our bathroom right now and it totally blows. When you try to save money by doing it yourself it always takes a lot longer than you think. Matt has hired guys to do the electrical and dry wall but pretty much he has taken on the entire project by himself. A big thanks to my friends husbands and Matt's buddies that have come over to help and give advice! The walls are up, tub installed (so deep and dreamy) duel flush toilet installed and Matt is priming the walls as we speak. I need to run over to the paint store and pick out a nice color for the walls. Well, I think I'm going with a shade of white. We have dark floor tiles that have flecks of silver and blue and the subway tile in the shower is a calming ocean blue (with an stripe of white glass mosaic). So, I think a white will work. Oh I can't wait for it to be finished! We have been going up to my moms to shower for the past few weeks. It's not that bad considering they have a pretty sweet steam shower with a bench to lounge on and a rain shower head. It's kinda like a spa, well I like to imagine it is!

While Matt did the demo I went down to St. George with my mom and Mr. Felix. It was a fun little getaway and a nice bonding trip with my mommy. We ate out a lot (discovered that Wagon Wheel has moved from Leeds BACK to St. George!!) hiked near Kayenta, took walks on the golf course looking for frogs and spent some time in the sun over at the pool. Mr. Felix had a blast at the pool. He played with his sharks and kept saying "na-na na-na" (Jaws theme). It will be fun this summer at Grammy's pool! I'll be posting some pics of the progress on the bathroom soon, I just need to download them!

Antelope Island

Last weekend we ventured out to Antelope Island. Wow, haven't been there for I don't know how long! Matt's friend Jeff was running a 50 mile race (insane I know) and we wanted to go check things out and give high fives after the race . The island was surprisingly beautiful...tall grasses, snowy mountain views, and BISON. I love bison! It was kind of like we were in our own little Yellowstone National Park. We had the place to ourselves besides the few passing cars.

It was my sweet nephews birthday last weekend and I wanted say HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN & HENRY!!!! Yes, they have the same birthday....3 years apart to the day. Ben turned 13 (yikes!) and Henry turned 10. We had a fun night celebrating at Training Table and going to see "The Lighting Thief". I gave Ben a wallet filled with many surprises! Let's see....there was some cash, coins, stickers and best of all a nice picture of me that he can gaze upon each time he opens it! Ha, I'm sure his Jr. High buddies will think that is soooooo cool! He had a good laugh. I gave Henry a cube puzzle and if he solved it, inside was a treasure trove of cash! Bet he is still is working on that one....it was hard to solve!

I love these boys with all my heart. They make me SO happy. What fine young men they are turning out to be.

Tomato Season

I'm already dreaming of biting into a fresh summer garden tomato. Ohhhh doesn't that sound wonderful? I live on tomatoes all summer long. I eat them sliced with a sprinkling of salt and cracked pepper, doesn't get any better than that. For an even more indulgent feast I drizzle on organic olive and a good aged balsamic. My mouth is watering.....

I've been researching purchasing heirloom tomato varieties this year. I've become somewhat of a freak when it comes to organic and heirloom varieties of food. I'm SO AGAINST gmo's and animals that are grown in horrific conditions. Please watch Food Inc. it will blow your mind and it will change the way you eat and purchase food. I've also been looking to where I can find local grass fed animals that actually spend their days grazing and being happy (I think I've found some). I can't purchase regular beef, chicken and pork anymore. I need to know where that meat is coming from. I've found some cool farms around the country that specialize in heritage chicken & turkey. That's the kind of food all of us should be buying. It's more expensive, but it's SO WORTH IT.

Oh and Costco is now carrying the Kirkland brand of cage free organic eggs. I like that. Well, back to my tomatoes....

I can't wait to get my fingers in the soil and starting planting my heirloom tomato plants. This is one website that seems to have a good selection....

What fun times were had down in St. George. I was so depressed to come home. Seriously, this time of year is so hard for me. Going down South is the only thing that keeps me sane. We did a fun hike up Snow Canyon and the weather couldn't have been more gorgeous. I just love getting out in the red rocks to reboot my spirit and energy. Mr. Felix had a blast hiking on his own two little legs. One trail he walked for over a mile, he would stop and throw about a million rocks, but he did it on his own!

We also hiked to some amazing Anasazi ruins and rock art. This place is a new favorite. It's like a treasure hunt finding all the ancient carved rock. Pictures and images are all over the place. Sensory overload! I would stand next to some of the art and would think someone was right there carving this picture so very long ago. I felt a connection. I've said it before, but I know I was a native in a past life. If you know me, you know my love for turquoise & rabbit skins. Just kidding on the skins.

We are heading down South in search of sun and breathable air. Oh I can't wait to get some sun on my pasty white face and to breath fresh air! This is a much needed mini break. I have seriously been working too much. Poor Felix hangs out with DJ Lance Rock a little too much these days.

Sledding

This was not the best of sledding hills but we needed to start small with Felix being a beginner. We went to Bentley park up the street from my mom's house. Fun! Sarah and her room mate Jenni came along as well. Felix was happy most of the time but a few tears showed themselves. Next time I want to go up to Park City to the groomed sledding hills. Rope tows, tubes and hot chocolate, now that sounds like a good time!

New Years Eve

Ha! We spent New Years Eve cozy at home- No big parties, No hangover's, No craziness. Loved every minute of it. I made a simple roasted chicken with red smashed potatoes. It was simple yet delicious. In the pictures we are drinking gingerale, not Champeezy unfortunately. Happy New Year!!

However, we held Christmas Eve on December 22nd because my Dad had to work on the 24th. December 22nd just happens to be my hottie hubby Matt's birthday. He is just the greatest guy ever!!! I gave him a cool Tommy Bahama shirt to sport while we are in Hawaii. I think he liked it.... I just realized I was not very good at capturing this fun filled evening. Not even one picture of the birthday boy :( Probably because I was busy making Clementine Cosmos. Yum.

Every year we get together with the Wilkinson & Snyder families for the annual White Elephant Dinner Party! It's so fun and boy did some great gifts show up this year. My favorite was a huge box full of old fashioned maxi pads from the 70' or 80's. You should have seen these suckers. Creepy lady with flowers on the front of each box. Of course Sarah stole the maxi's to give to our other annual white elephant party on Christmas morning. Those pictures to come soon.

Cookie & Gingerbread House Party

Oh what a fun tradition this is! I look forward to making cookies and decorating gingerbread houses come every December. Oh man, I feel bad for my Aunt Jan who has to clean up afterward. I'm sure there is frosting, dough and candy in every nook and cranny! Next year I think I would like to create a from scratch gingerbread house. Ya know, rolling out the dough, cutting the roof and sides of the house. Hmmm, maybe that would be taking on a little too much? Guess I will have to wait for next year! Heber is the gingerbread house decorating master. He decorated and kept adding candy up until the last second. He probably used about 10 lbs. of frosting and candy!

My dad insisted on doing one of his Bernhisel family news letters this year. His writing is rather funny, so it's always a joy to read. He also wanted to include a picture of his 5 daughters & a picture of his 5 grandsons. This is what we came up with. The Theurer's had their pictures done, so we just added a pic of Felix and it turned out cute! We used the image of the 5 Bernhisel Beauties in the train that Molly Jones took of us last summer.

I'm one of those people that love traditions. I guess it just makes things feel familiar, fun, & memorable. During the month of December it seems like families have the most traditions. One of my favorite activities is to go see the lights down at temple square. Wow! The lights on the temple grounds are so beautiful. How do those guys get those lights so perfect?! That job would make me go insane. Anyhoo, you really feel the spirit of love, Christ, & Christmas while strolling around. The nativity is one of the spots I like best. Christmas is all about the birth of our savior right? I feel bad because I didn't get out my super cuter nativity set this year. I don't have a good place to put it while Felix is still getting into things, yet I have Santa all over the place. That is kinda messed up, but I have a good excuse don't I? Next year it will be front and center!

Oh Christmas Tree!

It's a tradition now to find our fresh cut Christmas tree at the Robinson Family Tree Lot. They really do have a good selection of beautiful trees! It was snowing the day we picked out our tree which it made it even more Christmasy. Felix was not feeling well so he just sat in his stroller and took in the sights.

After we found the tree we headed over to Trolley Square to meet Santa Claus. Felix's first encounter. Didn't go so well. I think if he was feeling better he would have at least sat on Santa's lap, but alas, he wouldn't budge. His face in the pictures are a hoot! The Theurer boys look a little freaked too! Has anyone been to the newly expanded Pottery Barn? Love it, and wish I could live there.

It took a few days of flocking/spray painting the tree, stringing lights and then putting all my collected ornaments on before it was finally finished. But boy does it look stunning! I really wanted the tree to look like it had been dusted in snow this year and I think I accomplished that nicely. It's not flocked with all the sticky goopy stuff, I mostly used a can of flat white spray paint. My fingers were seriously getting frostbite while I sprayed in the freezing cold snow storm. I'm sure my neighbors were saying that crazy girl is up to something again! I did the same thing and little more heavily on my front door evergreen wreath. I added in natural silver/gray eucalyptus bell pods as well. I'm kind of a spaz and like to do different displays year to year with all my holiday decor. It's fun!

I can't begin to tell how wonderful our trip out to Denver was! Lots (and I mean A LOT) of eating went on, cooking, napping, playing, dancing, zooing, shopping and hugging went on!!!! Well, we are off to Denver tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving with Matt's family. So excited! It will be so nice to lay around and just relax. When we are at Matt's parents every detail is taken care of and it feels oh so good. We plan to do some serious shopping in Boulder, and other super fun stuff. I will be missing my family while the play in St. George. That would have been a real fun Thanksgiving weekend too, lots of sun and hiking. Sarah is spending the holiday with her roomy Jenni's family and I'm sure they will have a wild and silly time. Happy turkey day everyone!!! Felix is a whiz in the kitchen I tell you! I started him very early helping me mix up delectable dishes in the kitchen, holding him over the bowl to let his tiny hands stir up the batter. He loves playing with the measuring spoons and cups the best though! Now that he has gotten a little older, he really enjoys helping. When he sees me get out the cutting board and bowls, he drags the little stool over so he can stand a little taller. It really is so cute. We mix, and whisk, and create. Here are a few pics....

Look at this #1 fan! Felix seriously goes wild at the Utah Football games. He dances, he cheers, he screams, he jumps. Love it! He actually makes it through an entire game without getting restless. Of course his favorite thing is when the stadium plays a little Black Eyed Peas and he gets a grooving. Only a short few seconds of the song is played, so when it stops he looks sad and says "ohhh". Let's GO Utes!!!

Sour Cream Thyme Rolls

I made these yummy rolls last night. Tasty and easy. I'm not the master bread maker, I swear I can never get my dough to rise very well. The plumped up nice and big. The recipe says it makes 12 rolls, but I think I had enough dough to make 17-18, but I crammed more dough then I should of into just the 12. They were overflowing, still tasted good but not super beautiful. Thanks Martha!

Makes 1 dozen
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces, plus 2 tablespoons melted, plus more for muffin tin and plastic wrap
1/4 ounce active dry yeast
1 cup warm (105 degrees to 110 degrees) water
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups cake flour (not self-rising)
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups sour cream
2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
Directions

Lightly butter a standard 12-cup muffin tin, and set aside. Stir together yeast, water, and sugar in a small bowl, and let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Stir until yeast dissolves.
Whisk together flours and salt in a large bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter pieces until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in yeast mixture. Stir in sour cream and thyme until combined.
Spoon a heaping 1/3 cup dough into each cup of muffin tin. Cover with buttered plastic wrap; let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake rolls 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and lightly brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter. Bake until golden brown, 16 to 18 minutes. Immediately invert and unmold rolls onto a wire rack. Serve warm.

St. George Weekend

A few weeks ago Matt and I decided to escape down to sunny St. George. What a lovely time we had. The weather was gorgeous and warm. We didn't do a whole lot- just relaxed mostly. We are so lucky to have a nice comfortable spot down in Southern Utah. It's one of our favorite spots!

On the way down we decided to drive the Alpine Loop to see all the fall leaves. Wow, so beautiful. However, as we climbed higher and higher up the mountain we drove into a complete blizzard! No fall leaves up there, just white knuckle driving. Matt did get out a few times to snap some glorious shots.

Cowboy Cookies. Num-nums as Felix would say. Try these out, they really are so tasty.

Makes about 3 dozen
Vegetable oil cooking spray
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light-brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
6 ounces semisweet chocolate, cut into 1/4-inch chunks (1 cup)
3 ounces (3/4 cup) pecan halves
1/2 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or nonstick baking mats; set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
Beat butter and sugars with a mixer on medium-high until pale and creamy, about 3 minutes. Reduce speed to medium. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.
Reduce speed to low, and slowly add flour mixture, beating until just incorporated. Beat in oats, chocolate, pecans, and coconut until combined. (Dough can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.)
Using a 1 1/2-inch ice cream scoop or a small spoon, drop dough onto baking sheets, spacing 3 inches apart.
Bake until edges of cookies begin to brown, 11 to 13 minutes. Transfer baking sheets to a wire rack, and let cool for 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to racks. Let cool. (Cookies can be stored up to 3 days.)

Last Saturday was my annual Halloween party and boy was it Spooktacular! This year I bent the rules a bit and allowed the guys to come, and I have to say it was a lot of fun. One of our favorite traditions every October is going to the local pumpkin patch. I love seeing all the funny shapes, colors and textures. I try to find pumpkins with a good thick stem and that will sit upright on the porch. The pumpkin patch we went to is out in Draper and they have the most amazing warty varieties. They look so bumpy and freaky! My cute friend Shauna (aka Grammy Shauna) took us and let us pick out all the orange beauties our hearts desired. She so spoils us! Here are a few cute shots.

Oh goodie goodie gum drops I had the best day on Wednesday! I flew up to Seattle for a few hours to hang out with Kate. So fun! This is how it happened.... Nora (a friend of Kate's and a friend of mine) -her dad has a private jet and needed to go pick up her step brother and take him back to SLC. So, Nora didn't want seats to go to waste so she told Kate to invite some peeps to come up for the afternoon. I made it, and Kate's little sisters Molly and Laura came as well. Boy did we have a great time. What a way to travel! No bag check in, no lines, no security, no people. You just drive to the jet center and board the plane. Score! The plane also had Cheetos to snack on, was I in heaven or what?! When we arrived in Seattle, Kate met us and we went to a cool outdoor mall to shop, chat and eat cupcakes. Seattle is so dreamy. Green, lush and beautiful. We ate lunch at a fun mexican place and then sadly, we were off back to Salt Lake. Only a few hours with Kate, but it was worth it. I so hope to do it again sometime! What a cool experience. So lucky.

Wow, I'm seriously so behind on my blog. I have a few pictures from the end of this great summer! Oh how the summer flies on by. Don't get me wrong, I love autumn, but this year I have been fighting the cold weather a little more then usual. I guess it's because this past summer was just so lovely. I will have to welcome the falling leaves, warm apple cider and pumpkin's which I really don't mind, and look forward to next year's Bear Lake trips, sunshine, green grass and long lazy days.

Cowabunga Baby! I just HAD to take a visit to the new water park out in Draper this year for my birthday. Water sliding is one of my favorite activities. It just makes me smile, laugh & all my stress seems to dissolve. I would have to say that Seven Peaks is a little more adventurous, but these slides were still fun. Felix had a good time playing in the fountains, eating ice cream and maybe had kinda fun going down one of the slides.

12 Peach pies. Yes, you heard me correct I made 12 of the most delicious fresh peach pies with my friend Shauna back in September. We made crusts, filling, and fresh whipped cream. These pies are to die for. I'm serious. I think I ate 2 whole pies by myself. Oh I just can't resist! I had peaches coming out of my ears. I did pies, peach jam, peach puree, & just sliced and froze peaches to make cobbler all winter long.

The Utah State Fair. Classic. I haven't hit up the fair in like 10 years and now I remember why. Crazy carni folk. I can't believe all the strange people, and all the junk. Oh the junk! It was fun taking Felix to see all the animals, and he enjoyed all the lights and sounds. Of course we had to get roasted corn on the cob with butter, corn dogs, soda and other bad things. Sassy and Jordan got a deep fried pickle and it looked so delicious. I think the food is the best part of the fair, don't you? Did you know they have "A Giant Gator"? I went and viewed the poor thing for 50 cents. This large reptile was all cramped in this nasty looking shallow pool within a giant trailer. That is no way to live my friends. I want to plan a way to save this majestic creature and let him free.

Back To Nature Peanut Butter Creme Cookies. I can't stop eating these, please help me. Felix snarfs these little goodies down in a flash, but will he touch a real peanut butter sandwich, not a chance. I'm sure the other flavors are delicious, but I can't stop buying the peanut butter. The creme filling has a crunchy texture which has a marvelous mouth feel.

Oh my Greek Gods Yogurt in Honey flavor. I buy this full fat fantasy for Felix. He loves it and I love it just as much. I buy it at Smith's. For an extra yummy treat I swirl in fresh fruit puree. Yum.

I Left My Heart....

In San Francisco. Oh boy do I love that city! Wish I could have spent a little more time. Okay, so this is how the story begins....

My mom and Sarah had mentioned that I should come along to San Francisco to take Sarah back to art school. I thought, well sure! But, I really didn't know I was going until the night before. Pack-pack-pack, but it couldn't be too much because all of Sarah's stuff was going to be jammed into my moms car and I would be driving a rental car packed with more stuff. What was I thinking driving 12 hours (mixed in with my mom driving) with a 18 month old? Whew, that was a long drive both ways. Thankfully we dropped the rental off and I was with my parents on the way home. The drive was worth having a few really fun days and being able to get Sarah settled in. It was fun helping her put away and organize all the kitchen stuff. You should see her itty bitty studio apartment. I thought my house was small!

With a lot of begging and pleading I FINALLY got all my sisters to get together for a little photo shoot. The Bernhisel girls have not done a photo of just us for SO many years. I found some old shots in my parents room, ya know the ones in all matching plaid or denim. Ha! I thought it would be fun to do something a little more current. Matt came up with a good idea of us all being in denim overalls but we nixed that idea. I asked everyone to wear just what ever they would be regularly wearing but a little jazzed up. I wanted us to look like ourselves, not really planned or matching. I love the results. We hired the talented Molly Jones of (Molly Jones Photography). She was so amazing. Molly suggested we head out the the Great Salt Lake for our shoot. We all loved the idea! She knew all the good spots and I really think she captured the essence of all of us. Can't wait to get some of these images framed. I think my Dad is going to love these...

Dr. Ashlie Bernhisel!!! Well, almost.

I was so honored to see Ashlie receive her first "white coat" and stethoscope at the University of Utah medical school white coat ceremony. It was actually really quite interesting. They asked all the students to stand, along with other physicians in the audience to recite the Hippocratic oath. Very cool. Ashlie even had her picture in the paper with her putting on her new white coat. She is like famous now. I just want to wish Ashlie the best of luck this first year in medical school. I know she will do great and every day will be a new adventure. Cute boys in her class have already asked her out.... he-he-he.

Another Good One at the Lake....

Boy are we lucky to go up to Bear Lake and spend so much time relaxing and having fun with family. This past August trip was no exception. I even got to celebrate my 32nd birthday up at the cabin!! Woo-hoo, that is always fun. I haven't had my birthday up at the cabin since I turned 21. I remember my mom had to scramble and find me a birthday cake- so it was The Little Mermaid theme. Cuters. My aunt Lisa took me to a bar up in Bear Lake West, but we scrammed out of there fast because there were some serious creepy dudes. Ha! So much has changed since 21. Wow, it's great to think back about how much fun my 20's were. Wouldn't change a thing.

On my birthday, Matt took us out into the lake to go carp fishing. Oh no, this is not just regular carp fishing....this is carp fishing on the fly rod! Matt hooked one and he handed me the rod to reel the sucka in. This guy was a monster, and a fighter and he snapped the line right off. Boo! I think my Dad had a good time wading in the water hunting carp. If you spotted one you froze and shouted "code black". The code black was my suggestion :) I think Matt caught a 25" carp and it might have been bigger. The waters of Bear Lake are SO blue. It felt like we were out snorkeling off the shores of Maui. I'm serious! The water is that blue, and in August the water is warm.

The Tetons + Yellowstone = Pure Happiness. I love these areas and I NEVER get sick of visiting. This past trip was a real winner! We hiked, ate, spotted tons of animals and just soaked in the scenery. There is just something so magical about those jagged mountain peaks and the mystery of Yellowstone. Who would have thought I would love bubbling thermal areas so much? I love it though- I love the bison, the trails, the wildflowers, the smells. This year was great because Felix was on foot and running. That kid can walk down a trail with no problems and he will walk for 20-30 minutes at a time. Rock Star!! My good friend Bryce passed away on Wednesday evening after a long battle with cancer. This just breaks my heart. Bryce was one of the coolest, passionate & most brilliant people I have ever known. He was the owner of Bloomerang, the flower wholesale company that I work for and where I buy all my flowers. He taught me so much about business and having no fear when it comes to customers and getting what you want. His lessons have be invaluable. Bryce is the second friend I've lost to cancer. Cancer is the pits. When I went and said goodbye to Bryce on Tuesday he was sleeping, but I know he could hear me. The same with Louie, as I said goodbye in the ICU while he was kept alive on life support. Boy, that was rough. Bryce had made the decision to go home to live out his final days. So glad he did that, and so glad he was able to do that. Below is his obituary.

Bryce Anderson Jenkins one of the elect of the earth, imaginative, creative, and beloved by all, peacefully passed away at 8:00pm, August 5, 2009 at his home, surrounded by friends and family after a long and courageous battle with colon cancer.
He was born April 4, 1972 in Taylorsville, Utah.

He was a loving and wonderful husband and father as well as a loving son and brother. He loved to gather his family and friends around him and enjoy life. He loved mountains, camping, hiking, skiing, cliff jumping, rock climbing and any other life threatening adventure. He took advantage of life, lived with passion and believed in living in the moment. Bryce touched so many lives and never stopped giving.

He was a successful businessman who was admired and respected by all he met and dealt with. He was a master at developing innovative and creative systems and procedures in his businesses. He could fix or build anything and was known among his friends as MacGyver.

Bryce was instrumental in building three Flowerama stores and a wholesale floral distribution company in the Salt Lake Valley. He also assisted his family and brothers in their farming and ranching operations in Southern Utah and Nevada.

He is survived by his wife Ginger and 4 children Brett (12), Brandon (10), Megan (8) and Miller (1-1/2).
He is also survived by his parents, Wayne W. Jenkins, Helen A. Jenkins and brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his brother Danny Jenkins at age 5, two infant sisters Lisa Brita and Holly Jenkins and a brother Jonathan Lee 22.

Bryce and Ginger Jenkins were married November 11, 1995 and later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00am at the Meadows Ward, 5735 South Fashion Boulevard (280 East), Murray City, with a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the church and from 10-11 am before the services.

Pioneer Day 09

Oh how I love the 24th of July, AKA.... Pioneer Day. It's so funny how the 24th is a bigger celebration then the 4th of July. I heard a rumor that Sugarhouse Park is no longer doing fireworks on the 4th, what's up with that!? We had a little shindig over at our house to celebrate the long pioneer trek in the valley of Salt Lake. I wanted it to be a costume party, but the July heat would even be more miserable in a bonnet and large skirt. So, I opted for homemade ice cream, water balloon fights, sparklers, and cold beverages. After dinner we walked up to 700 East to watch the spectacular firework display. Boy, the crazies seriously come out of the woodwork on Pioneer Day.

Have you ever watched triple D on the Food Network? Oh my, I love that show. I makes me so hungry whenever I watch it. It's one of Matt's favorite shows as well. We love when he highlights places in New Mexico and Utah. Guy (the crazy host) has actually gone to many different places here in Salt Lake which is always very exciting! They highlighted Blue Plate Diner, Ruth's Diner, Moochies, & Pat's bbq. Hmmmmm, we love bbq so we had to try Pat's! Not sure how we have missed this place for so long. It.is.so.good. Yum-yum-yum, and funny enough the restaurant is so close to our house! It's kind of a sketchy looking place on the outside but inside it's bbq heaven, with a nice dining area and outdoor patio. They even have live music. Bbq so good you will slap yo momma (that is what a sign said) :)

Matt's dad came into town for business and we decided we would try Pat's out with him. We were silent while we ate. We used about a roll of paper towels each. The ribs are HUGE and the brisket was so smokey and tender. I had the mustard greens as a side and I couldn't stop eating it. I recommend Pat's for all you bbq fans! I think I would like to take my parents down there or even Jaason and Erika.

The next stop on our DDD adventure is a burger drive-in place called the Burger Barn. It's out in the BFE somewhere, I'll have to look it up but the food looked great! Happy Eating!!!

We have been having a grand old time this summer. Boy does time fly when you are having fun! I can't believe that we are creeping up on August. Didn't summer seem so much LONGER when you were younger? I'm already seeing "back to school" sales and it totally grosses me out. I think I also spotted some fallish house decor items which are out in stores way to early, but I secretly get so excited.

Of course summer would not be complete without many dips in the Bernhisel pool. Oh it's been so hot and it feels oh so refreshing to jump into the nice cool water. Felix loves the pool, a real fish. He screams when we take him out and we have been known to lure him out with pieces of licorice. Matt has dunked him, but Felix isn't quite sure if he likes that yet.

Matt took me and Felix to a Real Salt Lake game. We won!! GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!

Matt HAD to purchase a tiny Real jersey for Felix. Like father like son!

We took an AWESOME hike up at the top of Emigration canyon. It was HOT but the views were worth it. I seriously had sweat running down my face. We even found a cute little horny toad and also ran into some deer.
